The other day I was doing a Google search and I came across a recent review of one of my best-selling “classics”: YOU CAN SELL ANYTHING BY TELEPHONE!

The reviewer said, somewhat sheepishly, as if she were experiencing a guilty pleasure, that my book is really quite good, despite the fact that it’s “old.”

It depends on how you define that term. That volume was first published in 1984.

We had electricity at the time so I didn’t have to write by candlelight.

But that title went on to remain in print for the next 20 or 21 years, which is astonishing when you consider that it survived at least two major publishing company mergers, numerous editor comings and goings, a zillion imitators, a number of economic recessions and downturns, and the rise of the Internet, along with the growing perception that information is free, and anyone who writes an article or an e-book is an expert and deserves to perch with the gods on Mount Olympus.

Today, I got a call from Hawaii from a reader of that book.

He just bought another copy, his third over the years, and he wanted to know if I have updated the information.

I told him I have developed “The New Telemarketing,” a consultative tele-sales process that’s dynamite. I have the audio program available to prove it, I said, enticingly.
