Answer You - 71 Ways For A Writer To Make Money
I had great feedback from my last article, and was asked to write further on the subject; hence my title.This month I'll share on Email Etiquette in discussion groups. For those who are not yet aware, on the Internet there are hundreds of thousands of discussion groups available in any topic imaginable. The most popular group systems used are YahooGroups.com, Topica.com and SmartGroups.com but there are others. Some web owners set up their own private groups too, via their website.The idea behind these groups is that someone starts up or moderates a topic and people become members (at no cost) if they are interested. Some of these groups have closed memberships, i.e. you have to be involved in whatever that group is about and outsiders cannot join, whilst other groups are open to all and sundry.With the whole world being open to membership for these groups cultural differences need to be considered and it is possible to easily upset a member and suddenly you have a heated argument with many others getting involved and the original meaning and context completely shoved aside! I've seen this happen in groups and it's a shame, as it often just takes a little thought and consideration to realise that perhaps the writer didn't fully understand the language, or hadn't actually meant what may have sounded rather rude. There have been times when someone has written something I thought was offensive or wrong and rather than emailing back to the list via the group email address, I have chosen
I believe that there is a huge market that is not widely recognized but, available right now for people to create their own careers. I approached Human Resources, E.I., and Canada Manpower in Canada, and Government Unemployment and Employment agencies about advertising this particular avenue of self-employment, but they will have nothing to do with it.It seems odd to me that with the number of people out of work that these government agencies (supposedly geared to helping people find new careers) will only deal with employers that deduct taxes from an employee's wage, and will not work with employers that pay by commission or allow their employees the benefits of claiming self-employment. I feel that someone has to inform people in need of help that there are alternatives out there.My name is Richard Moore. I own and operate an online business aimed at and designed to teach people how to start, build, run, maintain, advertise, manage, and market an online business. I see a trend towards more and more people getting away from having to go out of their homes to work or have a career. What I am about to tell you may seem very obvious - you may even say DUH!!! but the fact is, - many company’s forget the 3 R’s of good customer service- Respect your Customer, Take Responsibility for Your Actions and Products and give your Customers a Full REFUND when it just isn’t right. I promise you that if you follow these 3 simple rules you will never have to run after the same customer again!Respect the customer! Just about as plain as the nose on your face Right? Wrong!How many times have you been greeted in a less than courteous manner or worse yet- not at all!! Never lose the opportunity to make a great first impression- very rarely do you have a second chance to undo the damage done by that first encounter. No amount of advertising or even freebies, can make up for this faux pas. Remember it takes a customer 10 times of seeing your advertisement for it to become real to them. One customer has the power to tell 50 people how awful you are. That is a lot of damage control. That means that 50 people need to see your ad 10 times- that is 500 times each x 50 – are you reeling yet??? That translates into a lot of dough!!! Wouldn’t it be easier to be pay attention and be nice the first time around???Customers- they are your business- You need them- they don’t need you. They are your most valuable commodity and it doesn’t take a lot for them to be disloyal- on the other hand- develop trust – and it won’t matter how much your product costs- they will still purchase Kraft over a no n31. Generally, the ambient light available in a convention center is barely adequate for setting up, let alone creating any sense of style. Beyond the obvious advantage of allowing visitors to actually READ, proper lighting attracts visitors, directs their attention, promotes visual tension and adds an element of drama and elegance to your booth design.Good lighting commands attention. A well-lit booth is visible from a distance - and long before its dreary neighbors are noticed at all. Lighting also directs a visitor's attention to specific elements within your booth, such as graphics and signage.From a tension management perspective, bright and colorful spaces boost visitor tension, while dull, grey spaces reduce it. Eroding tension is your enemy in trade show selling and you must do whatever you can to stimulate productive tension. The more dramatic the lighting scheme, the more tension it produces.If your backdrop was professionally designed and produced by a display company, you no doubt have a wide-variety of lighting options available to you from the manufacturer. While the majority of lighting will be used to illuminate the signage on the back wall of your display, supplemental lighting could be used to show off the plants or better define the booth area. Humor is a great way to keep the speech interesting. No matter what you're talking about. It could be cemetary wreaths, if you use humor, the speech will be more interesting and they will remember it. It doesn't have to be all humorous, just a one-liner every five or ten minutes will work just fine.For example, if you are talking about cemetary wreaths, you could throw in the line, "By the way, never shop at a supermarket that sells cemetary wreaths. That does't say a lot about their food." Or "Never buy a cemetary wreath with a happy face on it. Unless you're really glad the person is gone."These little one-liners will keep the audience laughing. And when they're laughing, they're listening and they're in the palm of your hand.Look for one-liners to use in your next speech. Humor is a great way to liven up a speech and to reduce stress. PlotAs with every other aspect of short story writing, under ideal circumstances you won't need any rules about plot, and won't need to analyse what you are doing. A story will just arrive in your mind and demand to be written. You won't need to plan it in advance, and as you work you will know how to shape and direct it simply by following your instinct. The whole process will happen of its own accord and you will be too busy writing to think about 'plot' or 'theme' or 'suspense' or anything like that.The ability to work instinctively, without reference to guidelines, is our aim, but it rarely happens without the writer first having given at least a little analytical thought to what makes a good story work.
